Life Update: Leaning into Fall
As the days grow shorter, I’m finding comfort in the end of summer and the start of darker nights, cooler weather, and cozy layers.
We’ve also entered a new chapter of parenting—weekend extracurriculars! My eldest started her first activity in September, which now means getting up early on weekends (as if we weren’t up already) to get her there. This new era brings mixed emotions: the excitement of watching your child try new things and discover activities they love, paired with the realization that this might now be our “norm” for the next 16 years.
Of course, I feel obligated to share a sleep update as well. We’re managing life with two under two, and our youngest is now just over 4 months old. Our eldest had a tough start with sleep as an infant, but we’re thrilled to say she now sleeps through the night—though she occasionally skips her nap. Between ages 2 and 3, sleep can be a tricky transition. Some toddlers drop naps altogether, while others hang on for another year. I had a feeling she’d be an “early nap-dropper,” but for now, she still benefits from that afternoon nap to balance out her day.
Our youngest, on the other hand, is naturally a much better sleeper. She’s sleeping 12 hours overnight, usually with just one quick wake-up. She settles easily and—thankfully—hasn’t discovered split nights (something we’re eternally grateful for). She recognizes her sleep cues well and drifts back to sleep when her needs are met and she’s placed back in her crib.
That’s our little life update for now! If toddler sleep transitions have been a struggle in your home, know that you’re not alone. Supporting families through these challenges is what I do best. With the right science-based strategies, you can help your child develop healthy sleep habits and get the rest your whole family needs.
